Oct. 1, 2008

It's October! The days are getting shorter, but it's been 80 degrees this week. I love Oregon! Business has been steady. Even with all the shake up in the economy and nervousness about our financial future as a country, people still need to take care of their homes. In fact, for most "main street" people, their home is their biggest investment. Like all investments the real estate market surges up and then settles back a little, but over time, real estate has consistently been one of the safest investments. I have dabbled in rental properties myself for the past 10 years and been quite happy with the overall experience (of course my wife does a lot of the work of managing and maintaining the properties...). In the event the crunch does come and it's necessary to sell, it helps if the home is in good shape with no noticeable damage or needed repairs. And, by the way, a new roof is a great selling point!

Sept. 24

It's fall! It was nice to see the rain today and feel that autumn wind. It also reminded me of how thrilled I am to have found a gutter insert system that actually works to keep gutters unclogged. So many of them don't stand up to actual Oregon rain and leaves. I have these inserts on my property, so I know they work! It's just one of those nice things; a little extra I can help people with if they want it.

Sept. 23

A compliment from a customer reminded me how thankful I am for my crew. I often hear how courteous and competent they are - unlike many other construction crews. I can teach someone to roof, but character is so important and something I look for in people I hire. Not only do I know the job is being done right, I know my customers are being treated well. Satisfied customers - that's what makes it all worth it!

Sept. 22

All the news about the economy is disconcerting to many, but it's still important to protect your home if you need a new roof. I guess that's why we've been pretty busy the last few months. It's not like past years, but we're scheduled out a couple of weeks, and expecting to stay busy until the weather slows us down in November. It's good to be doing something that people need, and know they're getting quality work. I like helping people feel good about their home knowing they are ready for all the rain of winter. Quality roofing at a good price - that's what we do!

August 8

It's always fun when customers love your work! The roofing job we finished yesterday was a hot tub cover. It looks wonderful, and now several of the neighbors want one, too! Once again, a job well done. THIS is why we do what we do...

August 7

This looks to be a great month. It's been a slow year for the construction industry, but finally our schedule is filling up. I've wondered if it was the unusually late start of summer weather, the unsettledness of an election year, or just people wary of the economy. Whatever, I'm glad to be busy, and continue giving free estimates daily for roofing, repairs, gutters, skylights - the usual. I'm thankful for good employees and the ability to hold out in hard times.
